This is my fault. ;)

So the following items in ed's list have not been updated for Australis-specific content and in a few cases will be very confusing:

Get started with Firefox - An overview of the main features - http://mzl.la/LGkrZp
https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/ge ... n-features

How to use bookmarks to save and organize your favorite websites - http://mzl.la/LHrvqn
https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/us ... e-websites

Customize Firefox controls, buttons and toolbars - http://mzl.la/LEfUYU
https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/cu ... d-toolbars

That last one especially is completely wrong for Australis. Does anyone know if SUMO is planning on updating these pages in the next 2 days?

Also, I'm not a fan of shortened URL's. I don't like clicking on links I don't know where they go, even if it's from someone I generally trust!
Tip of the day: If it has "toolbar" in the name, it's crap.

I have a problem with this link - https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/ho ... ld-firefox

One of the great things about Firefox is how customizable it is.

Err, no it's not. It is Firefox itself in version 29 that is doing this -

REMOVED:

* Small icons mode for toolbar buttons
* Text-only mode for toolbar buttons
* Icons-and-text mode for toolbar buttons
* Addons toolbar
* Custom toolbars
* Bookmarks / History sidebar buttons
* Firefox menu button
* Separators / Spaces / Flexible Spaces
* Activity Indicator (Throbber)

LOCKED:

* Back/Forward/Urlbar/Stop/Reload locked into group on the Navigator toolbar
* New Menu button locked onto end of Navigator toolbar
* All tabs button locked onto end of Tabs toolbar
* Cut / Copy / Paste locked into movable group
* Tabs toolbar locked on top and always visible
* Navigator toolbar locked as always visible

Obviously, Ed is trying to help, but MozillaZine is an independent forum and every FAQ link posted here gives the impression that we heartily agree with the content and intention of them and many people here don't.

It is the extensions and themes on AMO that are bringing the missing customabilty back. So where are the 20+ other extension and theme links that can change features and functionality. on Australis?
At the moment, there is just one single extension linked there.

Someone wants the Addons Bar back? Where is the link to this - https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefo ... ar/?src=ss or the other extensions, Stat4Ever, etc, that do this? Where are the mentions of these https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefo ... -tiger-sp/ or https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefo ... lis-tiger/ that have Addon type bars (Bottom bars) already built-in.

Where is the Tabs on Bottom extension link, etc, etc? Themes can do this as well and do it without adding back titlebars.

Many people will only require a few features changed that are important to them, if at all, and it's not like the pre-29 UI was some 'Golden Age' on all that was right in browser UI or functionality. In a 'Wow, you can actually put back to App Menu button !!!!!....which was utter crap right from the start.' type way.

From what I understand, that is already in hand - viewtopic.php?p=13484147#p13484147 Understand, in a 'I was asked to proof read it when it was done' type way.

Granted, it seems to be getting tight to the wire *, but I'm sure it's in hand.

If what I posted is lacking the effort needed

I thought the effort was fine.

Edit - * Actually, because we are running a bit tight on time, I'll have a word with malliz and offer to write the initial stuff myself.i.e. before the pics and addons links.

Long FAQs can be self defeating, especially taken together with a UI that some people may well take an instant dislike to. Throw 'War & Peace' at them, however well intentioned, and that could well be the last straw. We need to make light of this stuff, not give people the foreboding that they are about to embark of some terrifying journey that needs reams of text, vids and links to explain.

A few, taut, concise paras from moi and people will understand exactly what Australis is about and what they need, and nothing more, to get the job done.

It'll be fine, it's only a browser. :)

Well, let's see what malliz comes up with in the next 36 hours.

The links I posted were to the SUMO KB because I did a copy and paste from a SUMO Contributors thread, after verifying all the links as being for Firefox 29 content. I was planning on updating that sticky with comments from this discussion thread, but I asked LoudNoise to unlock it to allow other contributors to post in that thread. I just hope that it doesn't go to hell with indirect comments like the three Australis FAQ threads that LoudNoise started over the last couple of months did.

I don't know why patrick couldn't see the Australis content, unless he wasn't viewing those KB articles with Firefox 29 - the content the user sees changes depending upon the version of Firefox they are using and I think SeaMonkey 2.25 in his UA is seen as Firefox 28.0 which would show that text and images.

Ahh... so they are serving up different content based on UA string? Ugh. So what happens if someone views it from Chrome or IE? :roll:

Young men and women are going to be surprised and annoyed. We and sumo are going to get blasted. Is there any chance of getting a useful FAQ here? I have been working on this for a number of months unsuccessfully and I would to see something that wasn't a bitch thread,

We are going to have a number of confused folks here. The point of this is to make them less confused. Kindly post with this in mind.

Fear not, ye faint hearts. I've just finished writing it.

We've just got the pics, the Removed/Added/Locked list and the Extension and Theme links to add and it's a done deal.

Seriously, forget about this stuff now, it's been sorted.

Another asinine attempt ay fixing crap that wasn't broken. I didn't even realize how bad it has gotten until you posted about it, because as a Moderator and KB editor at SUMO I have far more control over the content I can see in most KB articles than what regular users can see. After you posted about the problem you encountered with seeing "incorrect" content, I took a look at a few of those articles with other Firefox versions, without being logged in and saw what you commented about.

You need to put both of those Australis stickies on the support page instead of the general page.

Yes, it's bad. It uses way too much vertical space.

Well, I knew it was coming but still this update is lacking.

I have been using small icons since the option existed, now its gone and have to install an addon to bring them back. Dont the designers of Australis see the wasted space in the bar?

Also, since Firefox is so customizable, how to put the new Menu-button at the far left?

I can tolerate the new design but these two flaws need to be addressed.

Impar, this isn't a support thread. Kindly post your question in Support.

Maybe this thread should be shuffled off to the MozillaZine Site section to avoid further confusion?

Moved one of the FAQs to support. I don't have time to move the other until later today. Once Mal get online I'll make some suggestions.
