I really like aengblom's suggesting of fusion/phusion. It's simple to spell/pronounce and it sounds cool.

Here's a <a href="http://www.pantheon.org/cgi-bin/search/search.pl?Realm=mythica&Match=1&Terms=bird&nocpp=1&maxhits=10&Rank=1">List</a> of mytological names with the word "bird" in the description.

I was going to recommend "Quetzalcoatl", but it might be bit of a tongue-twister for everyday use. I guess "Quetzal" wouldn't be so bad.

And here I always thought the best part of "Quetzalcoatl" was the "coatl" part! I'm no good at this at all.

Just my thoughts. I like some of the others as well.

Also a good idea :)

and the connection with fire.... I like it

I pronounce the new name shall be.....

<B> N E T S C A P E </B>

If this was the browser Netscape had delivered for 6.0 or 7.0, well, I guess I shouldn't speculate. I will say that a good name is important, as this browser will be THE main competitor to IE.

About Stuka

Post by Dennis_Hawks »

Guys, this word Stuka [shtuka] has a relation to some german aircrafts - some bombers here is an extract from one of the sites I found by Google: "During the first stages of the Second World War, the Ju 87 proved a decisive weapon. Abbreviated from Sturzkampfflugzeug (dive bomber), the word Stuka entered the general vocabulary as a vital component of the Blitzkrieg, the "lightning war". They fitted a wind whistle into the LG so it would emit a deathly screeeem as it dove on its unfortunate target.

The Ju 87 prototype flew in 1935 with a tailplane sporting end plate vertical surfaces... but the second prototype and all later aircraft had a single fin and rudder assembly. Early aircraft were evaluated in the Spanish Civil War (1936-39). From late 1940 the type was steadily relegated to areas of negligible air opposition. For lack of a replacement the type remained in production long after it became obsolete, production totalled 5,709."
And also this word Stuka [shtuka] in the Russian language means "a thing" - and it is used in case when one does not know which name a certain thing has got.
So you'd better stick to another name - I prefer "Stormbringer"!
I like fast and reliable browsers.... Guess which ones?

About Stuka

Post by ehume »

I grew up in the 1950's in the USA. There were lots of documentaries about WW2 on TV--all the time. With the Panzer, the Stuka figured prominantly as an emblem of the Blitzkrieg, an instrument of terror. It made a sort of howling sound as it dove.

Stuka was used against "the good guys", and would have a fairly negative to very negative association for older users. A vivid negative image.

Phoenizia
Phoenizilla
Phoezilla
Phoenomenon
Quantum named their harddrive "Firebird"... I think they faced the same problem ...
Or to stay with the birds: Falcon
Sphinx
P#03n1%
Phastilla
Microzilla
Picozilla
Nanozilla
Xineohp

In general it's a shame that a non-profit product cannot share a trademarked name only because it has the same domain "computer".
