I like Bennu the best....
To see what John Tenniel's Gryphon looks like as a "Netscape Now"-styled button, check out my article "The DOM in Version 5 Browsers" at
http://www.webreview.com/browsers/1999/06_18_99_1.shtml
From which I quote:
"In the "Netscape Now!" tradition, I've created a new animated button to signify that this document complies with the W3C DOM. The gryphon was originally designed by John Tenniel, for Alice in Wonderland. Use this button free of charge on pages that adhere to the W3C's DOM standard."
Note that Tenniel's creature is in the public domain.
you get the general picture(tm)

How about Pterosaur?
"Ranging from the size of a sparrow to the size of an airplane, the pterosaurs (Greek for "wing lizards") ruled the skies in the Jurassic and Cretaceous, and included the largest vertebrate ever known to fly: the late Cretaceous Quetzalcoatlus. The appearance of flight in pterosaurs was separate from the evolution of flight in birds and bats; pterosaurs are not closely related to either birds or bats, and thus provide a classic example of convergent evolution."

I like the 'winged lizard' meaning, something similar with both Phoenix and Mozilla

I like these possible new names for Phoenix:

- Phenix or other variations such as Pheenix, Phenicks...
- Hermes
BTW: the Dutch for Phoenix is Feniks

We need to rename Phoenix. The kind folks over at phoenix.com have complained about trademark infringement. Anyone have thoughts on a cool, meaningful new name?

I'm liking "Hermes" the most, with "Vulcan" and "Guerilla" following closely behind.

How about <b>OGMA</b> ?
Ogma
In Irish-Celtic myth, Ogma is the god of eloquence and learning.
I can see a browser as a tool to facilitate learning by accessing information and the Phoenix browser is very eloquence.
I also can donate the domain ogma.net I registered it and have done nothing with it.
