Do foreign languages work?

Does anyone know how I can get Japanese and other languages to display on the page without a third party program? Thanks

I havn't installed anything extra and I can see Japanse chars on eg this page

I guess you don't have Japanese fonts in your OS. Install a Japanese font (using Windows Update, in your case), and you should be able to read Japanese in Mozilla/Phoenix.

There is a thread under Phoenix Bugs with the title of "Phoenix rejecting Japanese Characters".
I don't know how to make a link to that post...

The second post by Mook shows a line of question marks.
I am absolutely sure that with an older build (12-10 I think) the characters displayed correctly.

I have changed nothing on my w2k SP3 machine since then.

I just re-unzipped the 11-25 nightly and all Japanese characters showed on the link in the second post of this thread.

12/16, 12/14 and 0.5milestone don't show the characters.
How can one user solve this by installing characters through control panel?

Seems inconsistent to me, considering my experience..
