I was trying to view video on France24 and got the "Cannot create directshow.." error. The info posted by RonRay about how to fix has worked (and it is probably very important to go into Safe Mode because that seems the only way it worked). However, after this the video still would not play inside web page, but then I realized MMS was set to "none" in Windows Media Player (WMP) 10. Went to right click in WMP blank space on toolbar, tools, options, network tab, set MMS to "autodetect". Then video played successfully inside the France24 web page.

I was also getting the error message "can not create directshow player."

I ran ccleaner and it fixed the prob.
