Which Browser for You After Firefox 57?
I'm sure the general idea of this topic has been discussed before, but I'm interested in one specific aspect. When Firefox 57 arrives and some of your essential legacy add-ons no longer function at all, to which browser will you be switching? Please provide reasons/features for the switch.
As of right now, for me, it looks like Vivaldi will be the winner. It has the most tab customization of any I have tried. When Tab Mix Plus no longer works, it looks like Vivaldi can best take its place.
We know some legacy add-ons are never going to become WebExtensions. When they go away, which browsers have those features you must have?
Thanks
P.S. - I've been a loyal Firefox and Thunderbird user for over 13 years. Will still be a loyal Thunderbird user. I cannot imagine using any other browser, but it looks like the time is coming.

Firefox ESR.
It will give me time to think about what I am going to do.

So there are no must-have legacy add-ons for you that will stop working.TheVisitor wrote:I've been using Nightly builds for years and will continue to do so....

Re: Which Browser for You After Firefox 57?
A couple of months ago I tried Cliqz, a privacy-oriented browser with its own built-in search engine, based on Firefox. Its developed by a German startup that got some funding from Mozilla. Some of their ideas are reasonable but they don't let you install any third party add-ons, wanting to integrate heavily audited add-ons instead. So far they have only integrated Lastpass, HTTPS Everywhere and Ghostery. They need to be much more aggressive about what they integrate, they don't even have anything for cookies.
I'll eventually switch to Vivaldi as the Blink rendering engine causes me less problems than Gecko, the next gen version of Opera lost many of the features I liked in the original, and Vivaldi provides a lot more customization than Chrome.

Thanks for the info. It does seem Vivaldi is a catching on pretty well. They have kind of taken on the mantle as the "power user's" browser in that they include so much customization in the standard preferences. Of course they use Chrome WebExtensions too so it's expandable that way as well.tanstaafl wrote:A couple of months ago I tried Cliqz . . .
I'm waiting until FF 57 is officially released, but, if my essential legacy add-ons (like Tab Mix Plus) don't work, Vivaldi here I come. First time I'll use something other than FF in over a decade.
Thanks

Frankly no one should tell and just keep everyone guessing.
