I had this issue with firefox as well, so I switched to chrome I figured out how to turn off the ads there but not in firefox unfortunately.

sorry, but not true 
firefox dont include ads, even chrome dont. but both will show ads without any ad blocker. both use same safe-lists.
i use uBlock (Origin) in all my browsers with same configuration (export/import), everything is fine and running smooth.
