Stopping home page from loading...

Post by MozillaMonkey »

From time to time I find myself not wanting the home page I have set from loading.
First I tried 'x'ing out the tab and Firefox quit!
Then I looked for a hotkey to stop the page from loading. Nothing.
Then I found this:

"Loading home page. Setting the homepage to a blank page or a local page will stop this connection."

And what if you want to do a seat-of-the-pants stop to the page loading?
Can't do?

Rather strange.

Are you talking about stopping the Home page loading during start up or while browsing? IF on start up, you could create a separate shortcut that launches Firefox with the URL of your chosen home page, while having a second shortcut that launches with the home page set to blank.
See this article, in particular the third entry in the List of command line arguments -- http://kb.mozillazine.org/Command_line_arguments

Yes I am.
Thanks for helping out.
That is a bit of an ugly solution. :(

I have fixed keys on my keyboard that launch different apps, FF etc. (I don't launch from the desktop).
I guess I will just start FF with a blank page then and click my 'homepage' when I want to go there.
I would have thought there would be a hotkey where you could cancel any page from loading.
That seems like the most intuitive programming way to do this.

I know if one of 3, 4 , 5 tabs etc. is loading and I change my mind I can always click on the 'x' on the tab to close it.
Works like a charm. :)

Too bad it doesn't work on the first tab (homepage).

Did you try the "Esc" key?

The clue is in the 'first' part.

Enter about:config in the addressbar and toggle the browser.tabs.closeWindowWithLastTab entry to false.
