To make sense of the drones there, you'll need this - https://www.google.co.uk/url?q=https:// ... Y_ST4MNgcQ

..and even then it will make little sense.

tl;dr? - data collecting has never yet been of any benefit to anybody, other than the data collector.

Its almost like they are trying to drive people away. The conspiracy nuts are going to go into a frenzy and probably for good reason

Don't bold my words and this is a completely different subject.
And I may be a "Sook" but at least I can quote and use a spell check

So they changed the toggle from opt-in to opt-out, Or did they remove the setting to decline data collection?

My reading is they will change the setting from opt in to opt out plus gather more personal information than before. Still looks to be a work in progress
Sorry for the edit went back to re-check

My next question would be, is this information public? Right now, you can pretty much see just about all of the telemetry collected.

Good question. Mozilla will say no but a database can get hacked as we well know especially with staff turnover a constant. Dissatisfaction inexperience and social engineering make for a loose grip on security

Did you read the first post in the link PadaV4 posted?
for Firefox we want to better understand how people use our product to
improve their experience. To do that, we are planning to run a new SHIELD
study that tests how we can collect additional data in a privacy preserving
way.
You might also want to read all the responses.

As pointed out by Gerv, I can't comment on the study, because I have no interest in taking the time to understand differential privacy or RAPPOR.

Has anyone?

You guys figured out what all this is about yet? (See Mozilla 'Strategic Investment' in Cliqz browser)
I reckon the 500lb gorilla in the room..coming to a browser near you soon...is CONTEXT GRAPH ?

Let Mozilla/Firefox analyse your browsing habits/data and then deliver the results THEY want you to see.
Doubtful there will be another billion dollar windfall when the current search engine deals run out, how else are the Mozilla elite going to finance their extravagances.

Nope. Still have 15 posts to wade through in the mozilla.governance newsgroup about it, still won't read the RAPPOR stuff, and would probably opt-out of the Shield study.

Like most Mozilla Wiki's, that one isn't up to date. Activity Stream is a feature in Nightly, not a Test Pilot experiment.

Of course it is, that's what they're up to, as you know it started off as a TestPilot 'experiment' .. see a pattern here.

Yet another 'feature' that's about to become a 'hidden extension' with no option to disable ?
