How can I control what appears on my screen when I click on NEW TAB? Right now I get a bar containing Local Weather, News, Recipes, Food Network, Yummy and Epicurios, plus a search bar in the middle of the screen, and below that, 8 icons. I don't want any of that stuff; all I want is a blank screen and a blank address bar.

I did that. NEW TAB still shows all that junk. Probably I don't know how to install this feature.

Insert [Report] here, then [Cleanup]

firefox new tab has tiles but upper right is a wheel to customize.

Probably not adware - some of the settings in about:config for the newtabpage are left unmentioned in the link DanRaisch post.
There are items besides the url as far as rows and column which can be zero'd.
There's a couple of threads in both the Support Forum and the General Forums which go into more detail.
