I think it works just the same as for Windows. However, in Linux file and folder names are case-sensitive (unlike in Windows). So would double-check that you have the following folder/file names in the Linux setup:

chrome for the folder containing the .css file.
userChrome.css
folder-item.png if you're using that image file to get the old-style yellow folders.
OS: Windows 10 Pro. x64

Got it. The folder names and location was different but going to help-troubleshooting-etc got me to the right place to place the "chrome" folder. Also had to change the "toolkit.legacyUserProfileCustomizations.stylesheets" value in "about:config".

Thank you so much for your great article

Yours was the only scheme that worked to change Quantum's really ugly bookmarks folder icons back to the old yellow folder icons. I can now almost give up my pre-Quantum Firefox 52. Almost. I still need to do something about the default individual bookmark icons, which are still the ugly grey "world" ones. I did manage to change their color, but I really want to just change the default bookmark icons to the old light-blue piece-of-paper ones, or something else (I have display of individual website icons turned off).
I am using Firefox Quantum ESR 68.7 (the latest), 32-bit, on Windows 7 x64 SP1.

Any ideas?

A search of my computer reveals no "folder-item.png".

Where can I get a copy of that file?

You would need to download the Firefox ESR 60 folder image to the chrome folder for the style to work correctly.
