(Make a backup of what you have currently & in particular if you don't have a backup from before updating.)

Are bookmarks the only thing affected?
Fire 750, bring back 250.

And from my over 50 or so years of (mostly mainframe type systems) management ... is why I always perform a backup of any important app. before I update... it is a basic rule in the computer world.
As you can see she's (The CAT) always alert and on the prowl for Meoware !!

to add for this.

1. go about:support and open profile folder.
2. close firefox and be sure that there is further instance running
3. rename places.sqlite -> places.old
4. restart firefox will load a backup of your bookmarks

does that solve your isseue?

hint:
<profile-folder>\bookmarkbackups\
could hold more than one backup - just move out the backups you dont want to recover.
repeat with step 1 to 4 until success.
