Firefox runs in the background after closing

Post by kltpzyxmrm »

There was a period of time years ago when Firefox either took anywhere from 10 seconds or more to to shut down, generally until its running processes stopped, or not having these processes stopped at all unless it was done manually thru the task manager.

In the past few months, this behavior has come back. Not always, but often enough you must go to the Task manager to fully shut it down.

Creates new profiles for testing, but hasn't changed but the problem.

I've noticed this. If I close Fox and immediately shut down the computer, Fox will open by itself on the next boot since the processes are likely shown as running in the registry. If I wait a couple minutes between closing Fox and shutdown, then Fox clears its background processes and closes fully, meaning it won't autoload on next boot. Not a big deal, though.

if firefox wont shutdown i am pretty sure you are not using windows defender rather than another installed antivirus. in few cases its caused by an extension and then you will finde the solution in about:crashes -> submit the crashes and give us the link(s).

It is not recommended to "force Firefox to close via the Task Manager."
This may result in corruption of it's files, as it's still writing/updating them.
Just wait a few more seconds...maybe a couple of minutes.
Check in the Task Manager & wait for all the "Processes" to close down,
then shut the PC down.

(Always choose the "Custom" Install.)

FF needs to release its RAM prior to actually exiting (I guess as it exits), so if FF is using huge amounts of RAM, it could take a fair amount of time for that to finish prior to completely exiting, is one possibility.
