Profiles Stability in Firefox
I just did a copy/paste of my Firefox profile from my winter machine to my summer machine. It looks like it's still a good way to maintain compatibility. I HOPE THE FIREFOX PROFILES REMAIN STABLE IN FORM AND FORMAT. I was very dismayed and disappointed that I can no longer port Thunderbird profiles version to version .

Re: Profiles Stability in Firefox
tanstafl told me "Version 68 changed the format of profiles.ini, adding the hash of the installation directory (used to map what version the profile is locked to) and the Locked setting, while keeping any existing settings for earlier profiles. I'm not aware of any official documentation on the new format, just some comments in blogs, threads etc.
after I had done a copy/paste from one Tbird (one PC) to another that didn't accept the new.

Re: Profiles Stability in Firefox
The 2nd thunderbird did not accept the replaced profile and i did not get advice what to do about the various xx.ini files because they seemed different in form. I don't remember now if i replaced everything in the profile directory (as I did in the Firefox replacement). should that work? Should I try again, replacing everything?

That would be worth a try.

Re: Profiles Stability in Firefox
I replaced the profile directory and the two xx.ini files and it is all working so far. I think I must have been too cautious last month, not going whole hog. Thanks for the encouragement. My confidence is restored.

My original post, this time, was to encourage developers, if they read this forum, to maintain the (trans)portability.

1. For the most part, they don’t.
2. For the most part, they don’t seem too interested in user input.
