Anyone use Mozbackup?

Post by sillycat41 »

I recently had to reinstall Windows 10 on my laptop. I backup up the whole hard drive and also used Mozbackup to make sure that Firefox and Thunderbird were backed up. There are two logins on Windows... mine and my brothers... I was able to restore my Firefox and T-brid without a problem. However when I logged into his account and used Mozbackup to restore his Firefox bookmarks, settings, etc. it didn't work... everything was blank like a new install. Any ideas why it worked for my account and not his??? I know that Mozbackup is old and no longer used by many, but it did still work for me until this incident. ???? ](*,)

Hi,
As you know, it hasn't been supported for a long time & is very buggy.
Maybe you struck one?

Here's the current solution to backing up...& it's free...

Good luck.

Thanks for the response. I did read the Mozbackup was buggy and have downloaded and used Hekasoft since. But that won't help restore Firefox and T-bird settings unless Hekasoft uses the same file format. ??? I formatted and reinstalled Windows 10 so that data is gone if I can't restore it. :-(

1) I believe that Limpet was suggesting that you use Hekasoft for the future, not to try to restore data already saved using MozBackup.

2) Mozbackup doesn't really have a unique file format for backup files. They are simply ZIP file with a different extension, PCV in place of ZIP. You could unpack the ZIP file using any unZip utility and try putting the expanded files into the appropriate profile.

Okay, I'll give that a try with an unzip utility. Thanks.

I used to. It was VERY useful and helpful. I heard it no longer works. I wish someone would bring it back up to date.

DN123ABC - I agree... it was a simple program but very useful. Maybe Hekasoft is too... have yet to try it.

Hekasoft is wonderful. Try it. You can always not use the backup it makes, but it's quite wonderful.
