Opening files as opposed to saving

Post by busdriver12 »

I noticed a change in behaviour of Firefox after a recent update (not sure which one). Whenever I download a .csv file I had Firefox set that it would open it directly into Excel. However, it now downloads directly to my download directory without prompt. This is done despite my instructing Firefox via Settings | Applications to open in Excel.

Is there now some obscure setting which is overriding this setting? Changing any of the download/opening options are ignored (I have tested this).

TIA for any help/tips.

Setting the new preference to true may help. browser.download.start_downloads_in_tmp_dir

Sorry, I don't quite understand what you mean about setting the new preference to true.
browser.download.start_downloads_in_tmp_dir
I gather you're referring to about:config? if so, this setting doesn't exist in my browser. Does it need to be created?

Tnx :)

That preference was supposed to be added by version 102. I don't know what you should do if it isn't there.

Found the preference and set as suggested.

That did the trick - many thanks :)
