Was v104 autocomplete beahvior changed?

Post by Cheekeh Munkeh »

Just updated to 104.1, and Fx is now behaving in a different manner that I'm not sure I like.

Prior behavior, going to an URL not in history or bookmarks:

• Enter "foo" hit return -- goes automatically to http://www.foo.com

Current behavior:

• Enter "foo" hit return -- then displays an error page -- site can be found, did you intend to go to [link] "www.foo.com"

Alternatively, if "foo.com" including the TLD is entered instead, it behaves like before, and as expected.

I haven't changed any settings, use a separate search bar, and have always run with autofill suggestion disabled, other than from the local history, bookmarks, tabs and the other two check boxes in that section. Don't know how long they've been there, but just noticed the "Suggestions from web/sponsors" setting, and disabled them.

"browser.urlbar.autoFill.adaptiveHistory.enabled" also set to false.

Is this a new bug, or "feature?"

Just updated to 104.0.1
So the behavior changed between 104.0.0 & 104.0.1 ?
Fire 750, bring back 250.

Went from 103.x straight to 104.0.1, so I have no idea.

Autocomplete in 104 has seen complaints of wonkiness, so I wouldn't be surprised if something is broken. Hopefully not by design.

Test in a new, clean Profile & see what results you get there?
Prior behavior, going to an URL not in history or bookmarks:
• Enter "foo" hit return -- goes automatically to http://www.foo.com

Current behavior:
• Enter "foo" hit return -- then displays an error page -- site can be found, did you intend to go to [link] "www.foo.com"
I don't believe either are default behaviors?
The second might be your ISP intervening?

• Enter "foo" hit return
- takes me to a Google search for, "foo"
Fire 750, bring back 250.
