Ahh, that's the problem. There's no Windows build yet that has the new download manager. I guess I'll try it in Linux later today...

Not sure if a bug has been filed on this or not but I think this code should have been removed:

It leaves an empty menu item at the top of the View->Sidebar menu. Neither the key nor the broadcaster exist anymore (unless this is going to get hooked up to something else at a later date).

i would like the d/l manager to open in the sidebar instead in a popup. is this possible somehow?

and i found a bug: the button 'downloads' does only open the d/l manager but doesn't close it, like before.

Yeah, just like the shortcut ctrl-e. Both the button and the shortcut should close the download manager if it's in front.

I'd like to make a feature request for the download manager.

I would like to be able to input a URL, and have the download manager start downloading the file.

One reason for this is: http://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=160454

If the download manager could start a download without using HEAD, that would be a very nifty workaround to the problems of that bug, which may help some people get things downloaded (including me). As it stands now, I usually use Opera to download from pages that give me this problem.

You can drag a link into the window and it'll start downloading the file...

You can't drag the link if it's javascript or if it redirects. Sometimes the best thing is to enter the URL yourself, assuming you know it.

I just stumbled across a possible prob with the prompting on exit.. If you have the download manager history set to Clear on Exit you don't get a prompt if you close the last browser window while downloading with the download manager closed. Selecting File -> Exit is fine with the download manager open or closed.

Perhaps I'm not looking hard enough, but I can't find anything that indicates how much time is remaining on my download? This is definitely a nice feature to have.

Perhaps have it say something like:

22.2 of 200.0 MB ; 63.5 KB/sec; 34:30 minutes remaining

Perhaps the properties box for the download could show more info too? Somewhat along the lines of the original popup download dialog (percent complete, time remaining stuff).

Other than that I think it's fine. Kind of hard to get used to at first since I'm so used to the original popup dialog, but overall I think it's a pretty thing
