The title of this thread is "Bye, Windows 98". Let people cope with this fact in their own ways (see the five steps of mourning).

This 'World as we know it', wouldn't be, by the remotest chance, the one where people waste their time getting heated about a computer Operating System on a Browser Forum, would it?

See? the past is useful to remind us about what is important in the present and for the future. :)

I cannot believe that people are still discussing this. Firefox 3 will use technologies that simply are not viable on Windows 98, right? At some point, it becomes too difficult and time-consuming to maintain backwards compatibility. If one insists on using Windows 98, one will find oneself in a situation where one won't be able to take part in new Windows related technologies anyway, so one might as well switch to Linux (if price is an issue), or something else.

While we do appreciate that many of the users posting in this thread are just interested in a calm discussion, it is frequently going off-topic and attracting flaming, and it will only get worse.

All the arguments for and against have already been stated, as have the possible solutions, and no further discussion will change the minds of the devs regarding the dropping of Win98 support in FF 3.0.

So, this is a pre-emptive lock.
