Open an Office file ( .xls & .doc ) with exclusive use?

Post by jimct »

I'm a VERY new user so if this question is in the wrong forum, please excuse the error.

I have a shared directory on a Windows 2000 file server. I've added a TAB to display the contents of that directory to my Phoenix on my workstation. Problem is, when I open an Excel Spreadsheet or an Word document my changes don't get applied to the file when I save it and close it.

I'm not a techie so I'm making guesses as to what's wrong with my approach. Can I change a setting somewhere that will permit me to do what I'm trying? Is it an issue of not having Exclusive use of the file? If there is no setting to change in the current version of the browser, is there an extention that will provide a solution?

Thanks to any that can help.

You're opening the document through Phoenix? Are you sure you're saving it back to the original location instead of the cache?
