Download Sidebar -> Tab

Post by ishopnude_com »

While downloading just now, I had a thought for the download(all of them?) sidebar. Wouldn't they be less intrusive if it was simply another tab on the browser? Maybe automatically added to the left of the other tabs?

Well, part of the point of Sidebar is that it is persistent across tabs. On the other hand, I do hate to lose screen real-estate, so I don't use the Sidebar. If I want bookmarks, there are several other ways to access them (although one thread looked like the dev team prefers the Sidebar).

To each his own, so go suggest it as an RFE on Bugzilla.

Like Opera does? I agree you.

Hope somebody observes us. And I think we aren't only ones who are hoping this.

Download manager in a Tab

You definitely aren't. I also think the Download Manager should be in a tab. Same with the Bookmark Manager, the History, and maybe even the Preferences.

Personally I don't think everything should be stuck into a tab. But a really distinctive tab for the download manager sounds like a good idea. I think it should somehow standout from all the rest and maybe it shouldn't obey the close tab button so you don't lose it.

Well, it's hacky of course, but you can open downloads in a tab by loading chrome://browser/content/downloads/downloadPanel.xul.

And bookmarks -> chrome://browser/content/bookmarks/bookmarksPanel.xul
And history -> chrome://browser/content/history/history-panel.xul
And pref -> chrome://browser/content/pref/pref.xul

FYI before anyone asks, you will have to cut'n'paste those links into the urlbar.
Clicking on them won't do anything.

I'm trying to do what you suggest (cut'n'paste), but I can't seem to cut the url from this website? I can copy it but not cut. Please help! ;)

That's very handy, Blake. Is there one for the non-sidebar Bookmark manager?

Right click on it and then choose copy link location then put it into the address bar, and if you wish make a bookmark of it.
