Adware.Vurst.A as well as Adware.Spywarequake.G were detected by BitDefender as soon as I chose to install this add-on.
The fact that these junk toolbars remain and how fast negative comments get removed makes me wonder if conduit pays any advertising fees.
Anyone have contact info for the addons administrators?
As I stated, it's gone. So are the 3 other negative comments from that same day. All the positive comments remain. I thought that the user comments were suppose to give everyone a chance to give their opinion of an extension, I guess not if you're making money off your extension. There's 3 neg. comments on today and in a few days they'll be erased just as all the others. Whether you feel this program is good or bad as an extension, this type of behavior is definetly bad for addons and mozilla itself. I have lost all respect for addons, which is part of the mozilla.org site.

Am I wrong in that he makes money off ancient "affiliate marketing"? - exactly the same tons of other links on internet do. No magic evil code, spyware revealed. If he does anything wrong it is not to inform users that links to Amazon etc. are part of his affiliate scheme, have not checked any of his toolbars - may be he is open about this though I doubt it. Anyway, idea is no different to an Amazon or whatever "Buy through us" link on a webpage. Wow, he got a check from Google!
Check Conduit forum, search "affiliate" http://forum.effectivebrand.net/index.php?topic=2152.0 here he is again Those people are all into link mania, banner exchange, anything goes but such tactics are not necessarily evil and definitely not part of toolbar. They exploit traffic through link tricks provided by shops and services that is all I can see. What is Google Ads about? Why does most blog/website have ads? Matter of degree.
Sites like Toptenreviews http://toptenreviews.com/ work the same way, not all but many "Buy" links will give them a penny or two.
About the comments I would delete any mentioning false claims of spyware or worse. Not the way to get rid of them.

Would you please copy the negative comments and post them here? They won't be deleted here. And for the record, people need to see if there is some reason for deleting them, or if they seem within bounds.

I just installed Bitdefender to see if it did actually pick up any spyware in that toolbar and it doesnt... thus the reason that comment was deleted it just simply wasnt true.

i just reviewed the amo site. we all know it has been "revamped". checking the different catagories i see that conduit is spread all over the place. the site is now a farce. the way it was set up before, access to "real" extensions was easy, it is that way no longer. there is one page of "popular" addons -
https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/recommended/
the junk has multiplied and will continue to do so. how the h can someone new to fx find the good stuff? they won't know what it is. yep, thanks to conduit.
http://www.conduit.com/
what a farce. i used to like to go there to check out the extensions, it is that way no longer.
privacy and security?
yea, right...
web annoyances?
yea, right.
search tools?
yea, right.
news reading?
what a joke.
the site is a farce. disgusting.
yep, read that conduit link i posted. that is what amo has become. disgusting.
edit - what addons needs is a big banner ad to click on that says "firefox addons, home of the finest conduit toolbars on the planet!". because that is it's destiny in the present course.
edit - i threw in a comma.

Well all the toolbar noise just shows they need to have a policy about mass produced extensions like stop treating them as unique entries. There are no limits to how many they will host. Cant say only X is allowed. Take 1 then what reason to reject number 2, 3, 4...? There are 125000+ according to Conduit so get used to scrolling fast at AMO.
https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/3705/ should never have been accepted of course since it does not state privacy policy, reason others have been rejected.
Remember just because they advertise with keywords like "Revenue" does not mean users submit to anything or their privacy policy is not correct. They encourage to make use of traffic through paying links which are provided by shops, services seeking traffic as well. I get some, you get some and so on. Conduit dont decide what toolbar features are used for.
Check HyperWords https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/3620/ Google pages, click "What is this page" at top http://services.google.com/feedback/onl ... 4863&hl=en What is difference except Hyperwords is cool? Still about revenue.

amo needs to stick all the toolbars in a "toolbar section" and let 'em fight it out.
edit - with a BIG privacy notification.
something like "this toolbar collects data from you". if these toolbars are not herded into a box firefox will cease to grow. the strength of this browser is in it's extensions and themes. the extensions are the muscle of fx, they are soon to be worthless at this rate for the new user, and even for the experienced one. there is no way to find good extensions anymore. they are all conduit toolbars.
