Banned from the Public section yes, as it will likely never get out of Sandbox unless somebody was bribed.

What sort of man would put a known criminal in charge of a major branch of government? Apart from, say, the average voter.

It's worth just mentioning here how the Addons Sandbox works, as many people think that they are all somehow OK and Addons is making user's lives difficult by making them jump through hoops to get at them.
But that is not how it is, the Addons Sandbox is like someone putting stuff on rapidshare or something - you can put anything on it. There are no checks at all at that stage, they come later if the extension has been nominated for Public status (not compulsory) and it is reviewed.
Obviously, the vast majority of stuff in the Sandbox is fine, but do all be aware that the distinction between Sandbox and Public is not some geeky splitting hairs definition - Sandbox stuff is totally unchecked and untested.

It does sound like not just any conduit toolbar will be allowed and even then have restrictions if they get in public.

And yet they continue to allow the Brand Thunder Boom! stuff even though it's shock full of surprises. I personally think they should ban ANY and ALL extensions that change the default search engine that are not specifically designed just to do that.
Tip of the day: If it has "toolbar" in the name, it's crap.

Re: addons.mozilla.org recent and open issues
'Conduit' / 'Effective Brand' is a VIRUS/trojan/spyware/malware plain and simple. Just look at google:
google.com/search?q=%22taken+over%22+OR+hijacked+OR+remove+OR+removing+OR+restore+OR+uninstall+firefox+conduit+home+page
I just found this thread after searching for ways to remove this from my mum's PC (I have a feeling she might have got infected via a Facebook App from Mafia Wars), the thing is insidious. I uninstalled the addon and changed the home page back, and upon startup the "addon" was gone - or rather, the Conduit spyware/virus/trojan was in stealth mode - but when Firefox was opened again, yep, the home page had been changed back again.
Also, removing the addon seems to have no effect whatsoever on all the search bar options being deleted and replaced with this guy's own search... Impossible to change back to Google or anything else?
Hoping the original reporters of these people are still around, is it possible some step-by-step instructions on how to get this thing removed from Firefox can be made by any of the programmery people?
At the moment it looks like Firefox has a lot of security holes to allow this to happen, and no way to remove it other than reinstall firefox/make a brand new profile??? Any comment from official Mozilla staff if they post here?

Erm... it's not Firefox's fault that Conduit got in. Firefox was purposely made this way so that powerful extensions can take advantage of it to give us very nifty features. That's why Firefox is our favourite browser.
That said, relax.. I hope you didn't spam everybody's PMs. Just scan using these scanners to remove spyware:
