slow menus on older machines

Post by sinnamoj »

I'm using Phoenix on an older machine, a P166 with 64Mb ram. It is very fast to browse and render but the menus are noticeably sluggish. The problem appears to be that the mouse movement is followed when over a menu, ie move left and the menu item to the left automatically drops down, move down and each item is highlighted as the move passes over it. On older programs (eg communicator 4.08) you have to explicitly select everything with an extra click and the menus are much more snappy.

Is there some way to change the behaviour to the older method, either with a patch or some type of resource file ?

Thanks...JS

You would probably be better of using K-Meleon with such an old mashine.
http://kmeleon.sourceforge.net/

It also uses the same rendering engine, but uses a more native UI that requires less hardware resources (what you call the "older method").

To explain further; the machine is running NetBSD1.6 with Phoenix adapted from the Linux code. Phoenix works great with the exception of this one problem and a Windows-only browser is of no use to me.
