software security device reset function doesn't work!? HELP!

Post by mrDutch »

HELP!
Hi everyone,

I'm really getting desperate now.
I made a main password for the security software device in firefox.
But I forgot it,so I looked for help on the FAQ page.
There I found a link; chrome://pippki/content/pref-masterpass.xul

On that page you can change or reset your password.
Since I forgot mine I had to reset it, but the reset button doen't work?

What should I do now?
I really need to get online and pay my bills etc. But I can't get anywhere now.
I hope that someone has a useful tip for me ASAP?

Thanks for your help and time!

I am also having problems resetting the master password. I really don't care if I lose any saved password, I just want to get rid of the master password prompt. FF 10.PR, Windows 98. Where is the thing stored, so I can just delete it?

I don't seem to have this problem on Win XP machines.

uninstall / reinstall?
Firefox: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.7.5) Gecko/20041107 Firefox/1.0

Thunderbird: version 1.0 (20041206)

Perhaps the solution?

If you forgot your master password, try

chrome://pippki/content/resetpassword.xul

That should do the trick. I forgot my master password on Firefox as well, so the "Software Security Device" didn't let me in. But this solved my problem at last. :)

When all else fails, create a new Profile.

A mind is a terrible thing to waste. Mine has wandered off and I'm out looking for it.

I can't find that place/file/what-ever. Neither in program or profile folders or in config file.

BTW: Is it so simple to crack the passwords? That should be a wonderful idea for a Trojan horse...
