Shrink the Toolbars to one line

Post by DanceMan »

There is one feature Firefox lacks that prevents it from becoming my default browser, and that is the ability to shrink the toolbars at the top down to one bar with the controls I want in that bar, the address, and the trio of minimise/resize/close.
I could care less about themes and how the buttons look -- I want the crap at the top at a minimum.

Love the tabbed browsing -- just learning how to use it.

You can get everything down to one bar by right clicking the bar are customizing it, however you can not get the trio of minimise/resize/close on the same bar. Just use F11 for full screen mode.

Thanks. I dragged and dropped the icons, address, and Google to the bar above then deleted the address bar.

Exactly. As I said, until that happens, it won't be my default browser. There is space. I use Google as a homepage. Get rid of that bar and I have space for the trio.

For the record, Firefox controls its own title bar, so if you got someone like clav or cdn to have a look at it there's a possibility an extension could be drummed up / modified to allow widgets to be placed directly on the title bar.

That, or the title bar could be hidden (already done in an extension somewhere) and spoofed elsewhere.

IE6, always used with the toolbar minimised to one thin line.

Spoofed = dulicated?

I realise if I use F11 I can go completely fullscreen, but I don't have dedicated browser buttons on my keyboards and not all my mice have extra buttons I can dedicate to browser functions. That's why I leave one line of the browser. I know I'm not the only person who does this; I see computers in this mode at work.

Are they by any chance called "Macintoshes"? What you're asking for is very unusual on Windows, which is why it isn't built into Firefox.

Well, I suspect doing *exactly* what you want would be pretty difficult, but it would be significantly easier to create a pretend title bar and simply copy any useful data from one to the other as required.

In IE if you go full screen the trio of minimise/resize/close are still available.

Nope, pc's. And seems not uncommon on them.

I've never heard of anything like that. Could you perhaps post a screenshot?

How do you do that in IE? I couldn't even move the icons around, let alone put them in the titlebar (on IE6)
