zippyshare download failures
Hi all
Always preferred zippy for downloads and absolutely no issues. Since yesterday all attempts at downloads proceed to last second and then get message that blocked as contains malware. Same download on chrome with no issues. Anybody any ideas?

Re: zippyshare download failures
Firefox itself doesn't scan for viruses so that message sounds like something coming from security software. Please provide a URL from which you are attempting to download these files.

I block Flash, so don't think that the issue. File (all 200meg) downloaded fine here, scanned with Norton On-line and file appears to be clean.

What an awful site.
> proceed to last second and then get message that blocked as contains malware
What does "proceed to the last second" mean?
You're clicking the orange "download now" link, not the bogus & most likely malware ridden green down arrow?
> 'Blocked: may contain a virus or spyware'
Seems that is part of Google's Safe Browsing (that FF uses): Blocked: May contain a virus or spyware
I would think that if Safe Browsing is flagging the download, there is good reason for it (at least the download that you are attempting.
Is your download the anticipated 200 MB in size as mentioned?

Re: zippyshare download failures
when this is about to complete download stops and message appears 'Blocked: may contain a virus or spyware'
Confirmed (& it is with the "correct", 200 MB download that generates the message).
(I will say, the FF download manager is awful - to my eyes. Because of the colors used, I can barely read, the download failure message).
Now let me see if I can see what's up with that...
the ZIP itself is complete & accurate
unpacking the ZIP & all looks ok too
malwarebytes anti-malware (the only such animal I have) thinks nothing of it
I'm not seeing anything that should cause the warning?
Only thing I can think is:
Apparently, some hacker(s) post(ed) malicious executable content elsewhere on the same cloud storage site, thus giving the entire site a bad name. For Firefox to block all ZIP files from that site because of that is short-sighted and just plain wrong.
The first part, malware files being there, that I can see. Whether FF has any "say" in the matter, that I doubt (& also don't know how Chrome's version of Safe Browsing might or might not differ from FF's?).
Not all files are flagged, maybe it is only "archived" files"?
Two (much smaller ones):
Works (.jpg):
http://www31.zippyshare.com/v/uJm3KgnU/file.html
Fails (.zip)
http://www86.zippyshare.com/v/FlL7GH4G/file.html
(I cannot believe that FF's download manager does not specifically alter you to failed downloads!)
Zippy is not manipulating the ZIP file in any way, as the download file compares exactly to its source.

Re: zippyshare download failures
"proceed to the last second" - i mean by this that the download almost completes and then is blocked i.e if 175mb then gets to 174.9 and then the message appears
yes to orange arrow
re size of download the size is as mentioned on the zippy screen - also confirmed when downloaded on chrome

I got around to looking today at what I downloaded, and it indeed did NOT download fully, and wound with .zip.part extension on the end.
I renamed it .zip and files seem to play, did not look at all 39 files.

Yes did the same on my end, & even though it was left in that state, it is fully complete & accurate.
Now my small test ZIP, that did not download (at least the the .part file did not persist).
