Silverlight plugin update problem

Post by smcc »

Firefox 41.0.1 tells me that my Silverlight Plugin 5.1.40728.0 needs updated. Microsoft tells me that this is the up to date version. Which is correct?

Take your pick http://www.microsoft.com/getsilverlight ... istory.htm
I assume you have to do that update in/for the Windows OS as well

The Firefox "check plugins" thing has never worked since day one. Just ignore it.
Tip of the day: If it has "toolbar" in the name, it's crap.

Doing the same with me as well. Check of the Microsoft update log indicates all Sliverlight patches have been installed and no new ones are available. Appears to be a BUG in the Firefox "check plugins".

Always,

Yes, like I said, it doesn't work. They designed it to check for *exact* version numbers instead of for versions with lower numbers than the listed one. So if your plugin is newer (higher number) than the one on their list, it's marked as out-of-date, when in fact what it out-of-date is Mozilla's list. They implemented this 5 years ago and no-body has bothered to make that rather simple code change.

I had this issue too (it seems to have been resolved as I was typing this message!).

As I understand it Silverlight was updated from build 5.1.40728.0 to 5.1.40905.0
(see: https://www.microsoft.com/getsilverligh ... _5_1_40905)

However this update appears to only relate to Apple Mac users.

Therefore the current version for Windows machines is 5.1.40728.0 whilst the current version for Apple Macs is 5.1.40905.0

I'm guessing the checker wasn't making this distinction and was therefore telling windows users that the plugin was out of date.

Just my opinion, I could be wrong!

Regards,

Simon.
