Firfox is asking master password multiple times
I'm using a master password in firefox to secure my stored password , every time when firefox restores the session its asking me master password multiple times ( I guess one for each site ).
Ideally it should ask me only once.
Thanks,
Abdul Mohsin

Re: Firfox is asking master password multiple times
I had the same problem so I stopped using the Master pw ... then I was reading some other posts on the Support board about a related issue and one of the highly qualified posters around here stated that once He has all of his PW's set up in Firefox (and he uses the Master PW also) he changed Firefox Options/Security and the "Remember PW's for sites" by un-checking the box for it. I did as he stated and that problem went away for me. The only thing you have to remember is that when you want to save a pw for a new site you have to remember to go back into your Options and set the Remember back on, revisit the site, save the sites pw info and then un-check that Option again... It all works fine on this PC now.

This has been fixed for Firefox 4.

Wow. Great tip! A much annoying problem also if you've some add-on like Gmail Manager which uses the firefox password manager at startup. No solution but a good workaround. Thank you very much.

They should also fix this for the Firefox 3 series. Cannot understand why they didn't fix this for years …

Because the fix was more complex than originally thought, and major changes don't happen to a major versions (i.e. 3.6) after they've has been released.

Re: Firfox is asking master password multiple times
Bonjour,
This problem which has now been existing for many months (even years !!) still exists: Firefox 19.0.2 is still asking for the master password at least tree times, and sometimes tens of times if it stays waiting for a long time !!! Even with Firefox started in safe mode.
Nobody is interested in solving what is for me an obvious and annoying bug ?
Pierre

This thread is way past its prime and will probably be locked by a Mod... if it is then you might want to create a new topic...
But, just to say... I use that Startup Master and when Firefox starts it prompts me for my Master password. During any use of Firefox (after getting in that first time) it never prompts for that M.P. again... except for the fact that I have one extension that prompts for it when I go into that extensions Options... that was built into it as an additional security feature.

Thank you dfoulkes for your answer.
I installed StartupMaster a few minutes ago, the result is that Firefox hangs up with this extension, I was obliged to stop it through the task manager !!!
I try to install it again ...

Re: Firfox is asking master password multiple times
I just reinstalled StartupMaster: now it runs well, I can setup the options without having Firefox hanging up !
I wonder why such a problem is not solved for months, if this extension is a good patch, why is it not included in Firefox ?!!
The Mozilla organization must be much more rigorous, they must not forget that users of Firefox are not all PC specialists: the use of Firefox must be very reliable, simple, easy, ...
I teach the use of computer in an association (~50 p, many are retired people), and I wonder whether I am going to continue to teach them the use of Firefox, there are too many problems: a few days ago, the last one is that in many PCs the personal tool bar disappeared !!! I guess it was after having installed Firefox 19.0 ...
And the bug of Firefox starting sometimes in a tiny window in the upper left corner of the display ...
But all that does not interest you ! (?)
Regards,
Pierre

Over time you may want to consider the Firefox ESR (Extended Service Releases). More info Here > https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/o ... tions/faq/

Re: Firefox is asking master password multiple times
I remember there was a line in :config which made me possible to extend the master password timeout and I set it to a very long time.
Now I wanted to make the timeout shorter but I'm not sure this line is the same I set at the time:
signon.masterPasswordReprompt.timeout_ms
because it is set to 900000 that means 900 seconds, but I'm sure it's not so short.
Probably there was another line to totally disable the Master Password prompt within the same session?
