firefox 33 very slow startup (Linux)

Post by confused_penguin »

On every launch of Firefox, it starts very slowly, a minimum of 30secs. Same behaviour on a fresh install + new profile + new kde user account. Starts instantly when machine is not connected to network.

following error pops-up when launched from terminal

GLib-CRITICAL **: g_slice_set_config: assertion 'sys_page_size == 0' failed

Kernel: 3.17.1
KDE: 4.14.2
OpenSuse 13.1 X86-64

I was having the same issue as you. I'm running a very optimized version of Arch Linux on an SSD. Chrome was starting in 2 seconds and Firefox in 15-20 seconds. FF would start in 2 seconds as soon as I unplug the internet/ disable wifi. I found a workaround in one of the forums:

The problem is resolved if you edit your /etc/host file and add:

127.0.0.2 %your hostname%

If you don't know what your host name is, you can get it by putting the following command in the prompt:
> hostname

**Here's an example:**

#<ip-address> <hostname.domain.org> <hostname>
127.0.0.1 localhost.localdomain localhost
**127.0.0.2 unidentifiedFLYINGcarrotsFromMARS**
::1 localhost.localdomain localhost
