Black spots in YouTube video's (Linux)
With Firefox 37 I see black area's inside a YouTube video. For example, when I hover over the sound icon in the video when playing the black area starts to appear. I'm currently using the HTML5 player on both my desktop and notebook and I have this issue on both systems. I'm running Kubuntu 14.04 and have different GPU's. The previous version of Firefox used to work fine with YouTube.

Sample URL?
Perhaps a screenshot?
What window manager are you using?
And change if you restart in Safe Mode?

Just what are we seeing in the video?
(Heh. I will note that that particular video did go entirely black, sometimes, when switching between windowed & full-screen modes.
Windows 7 with Intel HD 4000 graphics)

Re: Black spots in YouTube video's (Linux)
Hello, I'm back again.
I had the same issue as Plop, I'm using the HTML5 player, with Flash this doesn't appear. I'm using Kubuntu 14.04 with the default kwin window manager.
Example video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s_QVgapuAuU
However, it seems that the problem is gone now, maybe a update fixed it but I don't see any black spots anymore.

Have you tried Safe Mode as recommended 3 weeks ago?
Tip of the day: If it has "toolbar" in the name, it's crap.

I have tried it but unfortunately it didn't worked for me, also installed a other Linux distro in the meantime. The only thing that fixes it is to go back to Flash Player instead of the HTML5 player. I hope that Firefox 38 will fix this problem for me.

Considering that FF 38.0.1 is out, tell us.
(Though per the bug, reporter is still seeing the issue in "38".)

A week ago I installed Ubuntu again and now I'm using Firefox 38, still the bug exists on Firefox 38. Since I have a account on BugZilla I replied on the bug report. I will keep a eye on that bugreport and otherwise I will disable the HTML5 player if needed.

Update:
Maybe a possible temporary workaround for this problem. Seems like YouTube is testing a new design and you can activate it by editing a cookie. The new player doesn't seem to have this issue.
