Firefox 0.9rc1 and 0.9 does not run with Win XP SP2 RC2
On a whim I have installed XP SP2 RC2 and now both firefox 0.9rc1 and 0.9 crash on opening. Here is the error signature:
AppName: firefox.exe AppVer: 0.9.0.0 ModName: msvcrt.dll
ModVer: 7.0.2600.2149 Offset: 000378ac
I'm running XP Pro on a 3.0ghz HT pc with 1024 ddr400. Need more info let me know ....
I'm doing this report more for mozilla than for myself. I can deal with using a different browser for a time but I know the builders want this info for the future so I hope this helps...
Does any of this help?

I'm running XP SP1.
I installed 0.9 last night and it was running fine. Turned my computer off. Turned my computer on today and it crashes when opening.
Error Message:
AppName: firefox.exe AppVer: 0.9.0.0 ModName: msvcrt.dll
ModVer: 7.0.2600.1106 Offset: 0003381c
Interestingly enough, when I look at the detailed error report, it says:
System Information
Windows NT 5.1 Build 2600

Gah, please don't crash, 0.9!
I have XP with SP2, upgraded to Firefox 0.9 last night and it ran beautifully, then suddenly out of the blue today, it crashes everytime it tries to start up. I've uninstalled and reinstalled it many times, to no avail. I get this error message in the event viewer:
Faulting application firefox.exe, version 0.9.0.0,
faulting module msvcrt.dll, version 7.0.2600.1106,
fault address 0x0003381c.
Don't know if that helps anyone, but I truly love 0.9, I hope this gets fixed, until then I'll be back on 0.8.

For me specifically it was a problem with the prefs.js file. I created a new profile everything was working fine. Moved my bookmarks file over from the original profile to the new and everything was still working alright. Then I copied the prefs.js file over and thats when the crash immediately at startup problem started happening again.

I'm having the exact same problem as cygnii, bluetubeodyssey, and lkluj. Firefox .9 RC ran fine all day yesterday. When I came back today my computer had evidently crashed and restarted. Now, every time I try to open Firefox it crashes. I uninstalled .9 RC and installed .9, and it still crashes every time I try to open it.
I'll try doing what espressoman mentioned, but I'm still annoyed and worried it will happen again. I'm considering going back to .8 .

Actually, I installed over 0.9 RC1.....

In an attempt to fix the problem of Firefox .9 crashing every time it tried to start up, I deleted the directory C:\Documents and Settings\[user id]\Application Data\Mozilla, uninstalled Firefox .9, and then reinstalled Firefox .9 . Now, whenever I try to launch Firefox nothing happens whatsoever. However, the process does show up in the task manager. I'm going back to .8 .

I've had a few of these crashes on MS Windows 2000 SP4
(with the latest updates) and they've gone in via Talkback
(I installed from the .zip, guessing the .exe had no Talkback.
Does it?).
Firefox -p does come up without crashing - but it crashes
when I attempt to delete a profile (reported by others at
http://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=245053 )
When I manually deleted the Profiles directory and its
contents and created a new profile, Firefox was up and
running again.

Just to shed some of my experiences on this issue. I was having issues with FireFox .9 crashing when I tried to start it with Win XP SP2 RC2, and found the source of my problem. I have an AMD Athlon64 CPU, and SP2 now fully supports the CPU by using the Hardware Data Execution Prevention feature (DEP) of the CPU. When DEP is enabled Firefox .9 will not run, but when I make an exception (Hardware DEP enabled for all programs except) for Firefox, it now runs flawlessly. You can change the DEP options at <System Properties->Advanced->Performance->Data Execution Prevention>
