I have started getting the following error message last week or so when connect to my mail server using IMAP::
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Filesystem notification initialization error -- contact your mail administrator (check for configuration errors with the FAM/Gamin library)
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I am able to connect and read the mail but the error message is a large nuisance and gives me concern.
So today I downloaded and am running Thunderbird 3.1.6 on Windows XP with service pack 3. The upgrade (from 3.0.10) did not help and I still get the error message.
Any suggestions?

Re: Filesystem notification initialization error
This sounds like an error on the mail server, not a problem in Thunderbird. Typically any error message that mentions contacting the mail administrator is a mail server bug.
Courier IMAP severs use FAM. I've seen reports of mail admins updating Courier packages and not updating the FAM package to a newer version, causing this error.
