Post-Update 4.0 Problem

Post by Guest »

Firefox was working fine but then... I upgraded...

Upgraded to 4.0, and now firefox won't open. no error messages, it just doesn't open. but if I go to the task manager, it is running.

Tried deleting my profile (backed it up first), no luck.

Restarted. No luck.

Uninstalled, Reinstalled, x 2, no luck.

Tried an old version of firefox (downgrade), same problem.

Running a amd turion 64 x2 TL 60

Vista Home Premium Edition

I am fine with abandoning firefox. I like chrome. but the main problem is my 3 years of bookmarks. Chrome won't import them (I didn't ever do it before, wasn't worried about firefax crashing... now it's too late).

Help?

Install Firefox 4.

Hold the shift key as you start it up, which should let you start in Safe Mode.

Thanks I tried terminating it and restarting. No luck.

Safemode also failed to work.

Meaning what? Firefox Portable doesn't start either? Opera doesn't say "One entry imported" after choosing to import places.sqlite? Have you restarted your computer before attempting either, like the article recommends?

Firefox Portable didn't open.

HOWEVER

Opera worked. I had loaded "bookmarks" instead of "places." The bookmarks icon caught my eye and I missed the places the first time.

Thanks a ton! Now I have all my bookmarks on Opera... :)

You're welcome :)

Personally, I like Opera, but as I said it can export bookmarks in HTML format, so you're not forced to use it.

Your Firefox problems are likely caused either by an anti-virus, firewall or security suite, or the exact opposite — malware.
