I've been getting these messages for many weeks. But the past week or so, it's been several times a day. I couldn't get in for over an hour just now due to the following message...

General Error
SQL ERROR [ mysql4 ]

Lost connection to MySQL server at 'reading initial communication packet', system error: 111 [2013]

An sql error occurred while fetching this page. Please contact an administrator if this problem persists.

I have seen a higher frequency recently too. Get some everyday. Couldn't get on for the past 2 hours.

There are issues with the servers the forums are hosted on. It's being worked on but apparently no solution has been implemented as yet.

It's irritating for all of us. I spotted a spam post a while ago, went to remove it and got the error...

Well, it's good info that there's ppl working on it:) Have had this about once a day, but usually when I'm looking for some info on theming forum

It might be annoying, but I can live with it - I think there's quite a few users on this forum and even more threads etc. so problems are bound to surface...

The database we use is a shared one. It was recently upgraded, and the upgrade is causing some segfaults. Our hosts are working hard to fix.

Thanks Jason for the info. But damn....it's been weeks (if not months). For a board as popular as MozillaZine, you'd think phpBB Group would be a bit more professional about this. I frequent a music discussion board that is also a phpBB Group board. Had the same issue. With a few persistent calls/emails and 2 server changes, the issue has been corrected. Seems if a small, indie music board with nowhere near the same number of members can garner the attention of phpBB Group and get this fixed, so can Mozillazine.

Our hosts are the Open Source Labs at Oregon State University. I don't think we'll be changing. Part of the problem is that we are using a shared database. The staff at OSL and Jason are tracking it down. We don't have the freedom to move like your small, indie music board.

Thanks for the clarification. I thought that a server move would have nothing to do with the host, providing the host has multiple servers. In any event, I hope this can be addressed soon. I guess the perils of shared databases is what we've been experiencing for months now. Too bad there can't be a dedicated database for Mozillazine.

This is nuts. 1hr 45minutes I had the General Error SQL ERROR [ mysql4 ] error message. Then for another 20 minutes, I got this...

Can't find any servers to help you

The mozillazine servers seem to be on strike. The systems team is negotiating...

[this used to be the "drupal.org error"]

Then I had to log in again and was directed to a captcha screen.

It's becoming a chore to visit these forums.

The knowledge base is also often kaput.

The following error was encountered:

Connection Failed
The system returned:
(110) Connection timed out

The remote host or network may be down. Please try the request again.

But I guess I don't need to mention that, because all parties are aware of the problems and will diligently fix them very very soon.
