Thunderbird does not open all attachments
I can not see attachments in Thunderbird incoming mail.
If I open the same exact email using my LG Optimus cell phone, or if I open the same message in Outlook Express, the attachment is right there on the email page for me to see.
Any clues on how to see the attachments in Thunderbird?

Re: Thunderbird does not open all attachments
* Which version of Thunderbird? Check Help>About for the version number.
* What kind of mail - POP, IMAP?
* Do you regularly compact your folders? Weekly or more often is strongly recommended. Check http://kb.mozillazine.org/Compacting_folders for more information on compacting folders.
* Do you have Thunderbird set to "Display Attachments Inline" under the View menu?

Re: Thunderbird does not open all attachments
Forgot to say I only installed Thunderbird a few days ago, so there has not been a need to compact messages. Thunderbird is set up to display Attachments Inline.

Re: Thunderbird does not open all attachments
Unselect "Display attachments inline".
If you downloaded a large number of messages from the email server or deleted a large number of downloaded messages after that initial input it would still be wise to compact the message files.

I changed the setting not to display attachments inline, and resent the email with the attachment and I still can not see an attachment.

Re: Thunderbird does not open all attachments
What type of attachment are you sending?
With the message open on the screen, press Ctrl+U. Look for elements that refer to "Content-Type:", "Content-Transfer-Encoding:", and "Content-Disposition: attachment". What values appear after those titles?

I am not sending the attachment, someone is sending it to me, but it is not coming through. After I changed the Display Inline setting, I asked them to resend, but again it did not come through, but was on my cell phone email and my Outlook Express email.

Re: Thunderbird does not open all attachments
It may be a problem with the encoding of that specific message. The part below looks sure contradictory: The content type says "related" (i.e., image within an HTML message and an embedded image as top construct) whereas the second "type=" attribute (which I don't think is valid, but may be wrong) says "alternative" (i.e., plain-text vs. HTML parts should be the top level, the images nested within the HTML part as "alternative").
Since "alternative" is nested within "related" later, the "type" appears to be wrong, but I don't know which impact it may have on Thunderbird being able to find the attachments.
I'm missing a "Content-ID:" heading here. Do you see the images at all, either in the message body or in the attachment list?
Code: Select all
Content-Type: multipart/related;
type="multipart/alternative";
boundary="----=_NextPart_000_0026_01CBFC90.F9594B20"
