New Name

Post by berdie53 »

It is simple,

name it
"From-Ash"

or

"bird-from-ash"

or

"born from ash"
Wer "nichts" sucht,
wird auch "nichts" finden!

Other ideas

Post by Eloquence »

- Tycho (Tycho Brahe was one of the first astronomers and a famous colleague of Galileo)
- Huygens (Christiaan Huygens was a Dutch mathematician, astronomer and physicist, it's also the name of a spaceprobe, but not trademarked according to USPTO)
- Kepler (Johannes Kepler refined the heliocentric hypothesis and developed the underlying mathematics)
- Gutenberg (for obvious reasons, with just a few seemingly unrelated trademarks)
- Lamarck (Jean Lamarck was a famous biologist who preceded Darwin)

My personal top three:

1) Hypatia
2) Tycho
3) Gutenberg

first and foremost, raiden is the mortal kombat character. i believe that if you meant the shinto thunder deity, it should be raijin. also, it'd be irritating if no one pronounced it right ("ray-den, right?" "actually... no.")

Phoenix

Well, I think you should't change the name. Did you know that Phoenix Technologies was bought by Award Inc a few years ago?

If you have the latest Phoenix BIOS version it's IDENTICAL with the latest Award BIOS version.

And Raptor won't be used, because of trademark reasons

Phoenix technologies make a (BIOS) browser.

wondering when even the last one will get it :| :)

No new suggestions...

Post by pete »

...just thought I'd mention that I really liked the suggestion of "Palantir" a few pages back. But MOTHERF*CKER... that is also already trademarked! And trademarked specifically in the area of this kind of computer software, too - both as this: "IC 009. US 021 023 026 036 038. G & S: computer software for navigating the user to a particular web site. FIRST USE: 19961000. FIRST USE IN COMMERCE: 19961000"

and as this: "IC 042. US 100 101. G & S: Computer services, namely designing and hosting network web sites for others, designing database software for others, and designing multimedia software and presentations for others. FIRST USE: 19960700. FIRST USE IN COMMERCE: 19960700"

The first certainly covers any kind of web browser software, the second would probably cover anything based on the GUI HTML authoring software (ie. like Mozilla Composer).

Unbelievably, so is "Doppler", the only other one I thought was pretty good (aside from Newt :) ). People, I think if any of you want to offer a suggestion in future (though surely this thread is due to die out soon ;) ), you might find it worthwhile first looking up your suggestion on the "Trademarks" search section on http://www.uspto.gov/ .

Pete.

We need to rename Phoenix. The kind folks over at phoenix.com have complained about trademark infringement. Anyone have thoughts on a cool, meaningful new name?
