User Help for Mozilla Firefox

Post Posted June 13th, 2011, 3:25 pm

At some point, I downloaded a program from, what I thought, was a trusted site. I did a virus scan on the application before installing, and it came out clean. Then after I installed the application, I noticed that I had a toolbar that I didn't agree too and my webpage would be redirected to ad sites. So I did a virus scan and found ad and spyware related to what I downloaded. I removed everything my virus scanner found. After finding this mess, I immediately removed all programs that I downloaded within that date. I then went into the browser about:config and reset all lines including the keyword.URL line, which read keyword.URL; . What this would do is that when I type in the browser, the site I would visit regularly. Instead of opening the site's direct page, the browser would open mp3toolbar search results page. Does anyone have any idea where I could find the reseeding bug that reset's my browser preferences? My virus scanner is not seeing it/them.

Thank you in advance.

Could be a rootkit.

Install and run these programs. All have a free working version available.
Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
Spybot Search & Destroy

If these don't find it or can't clear it, post in one of these forums for specialized malware removal help:
