Every time I open up Seamonkey (I use it for composer and when I want to check my mail without having to wait for Firefox to load) and it tells me to download a new version, I do so and install it with no issues. When it asked me to download and install version 2.1 (or thereabouts), I started having problems. I downloaded and ran the installation but when I reopened Seamonkey, it was still the older version and I was instructed to restart the computer. I did this but was still prompted to download and install the newest version.
I decided to uninstall both versions. I was able to uninstall version 1.whatever, but when I tried to uninstall 2.0.11 and was told "your computer must be restarted to complete a previous upgrade of Seamonkey." I let it reboot the computer but was told the same thing when tried to uninstall it again. I rebooted in Safe Mode but was told the same thing. I cannot get rid of 2.0.11.
I did not know about Bug 525488 - SeaMonkey 2.0 release notes should highlight that installing directly over 1.x will result in a non-working installation. So how do I get rid of Seamonkey so I can install the new version?
Will "Resetting your useragent string to its compiled-in default" do anything to my Firefox profile?
cannot uninstall Seamonkey

Re: cannot uninstall Seamonkey
Go into the SeaMonkey installation directory, then to the uninstall subdirectory, & click on helper.exe.
If that does not work, then install 2.0 again, then uninstall it.
(You're confusing me with the numbers. The bug dealt with 2.0 overtop of 1.x. Were you running 2.0 before? And you installed 2.1 where? Does 2.1 remove 2.0 if installed into the same directory?)

Fire 750, bring back 250.

It is 2.0.11 that I was running and I could not install 2.1. When I went to uninstall 2.0.11, I noticed that there was another version also installed. It was version 1.something.
I will go to the Seamonkey directory and try it.
I clicked on helper.exe and got the same "Your computer must be restarted..." prompt.
So, do I need to find the 2.0.11 file and download and install and uninstall that again?

Re: cannot uninstall Seamonkey
Okay, I downloaded 2.011 and tried to install it and was told once again that "Your computer must be restarted to complete a previous upgrade to Seamonkey." I cannot install or uninstall it.

See if something here helps, Software Update.
I would think this to be a good place to start: "you can manually reset the Software Update feature by closing your Mozilla application and deleting the "updates" folder and the two files "active-update.xml" and "updates.xml".
(If nothing else, go brute force on it & delete the SeaMonkey installation directory, they try the install again.)

Re: cannot uninstall Seamonkey
I deleted the directory and then ran CCleaner's registry cleaner. Then I checked add/remove programs and Seamonkey is no longer there. I will try to install the latest version. Thanks.
