Simmerin'

Post by jayeshsh »

Hello,

I have been thinking about <b>Simmerin' </b> as a new name for Phoenix. Why? Because Phoenix is a hot, desired product. Excitement for it is ... just bubbling over (!)

It does not seem to have an American trademark attached to it - except for two dead trademarks for beef and chicken products. Note: I have not researched trademarks belonging to other countries for this term.

Regarding domains: simmerin.org, simmerin.net, simmerin.com are all available.

What do all of you think?

Regards,

I got one ":NameSpace" a bit more down to earth and an obvious referance to XML

Went to their web site and there is no mention of a BIOS-or-whatever browser.

Is there more info somewhere about why they can force this name change?

We need to rename Phoenix. The kind folks over at phoenix.com have complained about trademark infringement. Anyone have thoughts on a cool, meaningful new name?

If this has already been suggested, please excuse me as I didn't feel like reading 49 pages of names.

How about Monitor? aka Komodo Dragon.

I decided to invent some new names instead.

Maybe:

<b>Ion</b>

is an open source Window Manager.

<b>Photon</b>

is the GUI for the QNX RTOS

<b>Voyager</b>

is the web browser for the QNX RTOS

<b>Phoenix</b>

is already used, sorry.

<b>Firebird</b>

is the name of a SQL database I think(from reading here)

Now I know this post is completely pointless because most likely, 2 replies down will be someone with ADD posting "I think they should keep name Phoenix" or "How about Firebird, that sounds l33t" etc etc ad nauseum... ;)

Thing is, finding a unique name without making a word up (i.e. Mozilla, never mind how old that it was chosen a long time ago) is going to be nigh-on impossible. Finding a cool one which doesn't clash with the name of a company who are producing a browser might be tough but it's possible.

How about Mink? It's fast, little and nimble creature. Just like Phoenix. ;-)

Don't know if it was said prior, but how about just making it Zilla. It's a simple answer, it makes it's link to Mozilla obvious, and the name starts off seeming more nimble.

Of course I've probably missed something huge, but if not... why not?

from what i understand, the developers don't want phoenix to sound like mozilla at all. that's why not. ;)
