Does Firefox support TLS 1.1/1.2 Protocols?

Post by 4td8s »

I'm wondering if the latest releases of Firefox support the TLS 1.1 or TLS 1.2 protocols?
I know Opera 10 supports TLS 1.2 as well as IE8 in Windows 7.

a K-meleon user is asking in the K-meleon forums why TLS 1.1/1.2 isn't "implemented" in K-meleon, Seamonkey and Firefox.

I have a doubt about the use of TLS 1.1/1.2 by IE7 and Opera 10.x... Why Kmeleon, Firefox and Seamonkey don't use these protocols?
Which is the diference about TLS 1.0 and SSL3?
I use IE7 with TLS 1.2 only and I could open all HTTPS pages, but in Kmeleon and Firefox, I must have SSL3 option to open some secure pages.
Why?

and someone from Google Groups is also asking if TLS 1.2 support will be included in future releases of Firefox:

Hello my name is Brandon and I would like to see support for TLS 1.2 in
Firefox. TLS 1.0 is outdated and I know lot websites dont support it. I
have TLS enabled and it works on most secure sites. Opera already
supports TLS 1.2, I would like to see TLS 1.2 supported in upcoming
version of Firefox because it offers stronger security than SSL. thanx

No, but there is an open bug. It surely is planned for a future release. Probably not for October.

Note that they plan TLS 1.2 and not TLS 1.1 but as TLS 1.2 is a superset of TLS 1.1...

So TLS 1.0 has been broken... Its now time for 1.2...

This thread is over a year old.. Whats up with getting 1.2 into Firefox ?
