Firefox severe trouble

Post by Juan Merello-Galasso »

Suddenly, my recently functioning OK, Firefox 8, in the milddle of a routine work journey, started to fail beginning (me to realize), for a defective interface for Google Home page (black bar became simple squares with characters). At opening Gmail, things were equal, elementary black and white incomplete unusable page. Other webs as Deutsche Gramophone, don't open but black and white as "schematically". 5starforum is unusable, as screenshot will demonstrates, so I am wririting from IE that work perfect. I not only uninstalled and installed Firefox 8, went back through several points restoring and through ERDNT, but move to Firefox 3.5, and things continue equal..,I have performed no change of any setting at all, nor have downloaded any program or application at all, I am perplex, extremely disgusted and concerned. I am in my Mini Compaq; 1 RAM, that appart of this, functions wonderfully. Please, try to help me. Many thanks and kind regards. Sorry I cannot attach screenshots of this disaster. Many thanks and friendlu regards.

1. Clear the browser cache (use menu path Tools->Options->Advanced->Network tab->click on "Clear Now" button.)

Delete any cookies relating to the site(s) involved (Tools->Options->Privacy->Show Cookies button).

2. If the preceding does not resolve the problems, try starting Firefox in Mozilla Safe Mode. http://kb.mozillazine.org/Safe_mode

3. See if you have the same problem if you create a new profile and test it with no extensions or non-default themes installed?

And to add to what Dan stated... if you've been bouncing around with Firefox versions and you are using the same profile ... that can really mess it up.

After you create a new profile... test it without making any changes to it... if it works OK then you can transfer some of your important data over from the old one... if I were you I would just transfer Bookmarks and your Passwords over and rebuild the rest of it... like extensions etc.

Good results were gotten at creating a new profile but very soon the issue got troubles as before. I have just downloaded a new Frirefox 8, previously deleting every setting and so. It's rare, this so huge failure, and that bothers me. The failure appeared in the middle of excellent work with no settings or downloads. It would be very fine that from the 'advanced people' suposed inside the forum, one could get a reasonable deep explanation of the trouble, addressing the fixing by knowing what was precisely wrong,. Many thanks and regards,

Many thanks for your kind advices. I lost everything because I decided to delete all folders and download a completely new Firefox 8. I am sorry for ignoring what was the cause of that huhe trouble. Also it is important for me if some about:config settings, would be adviceable for my Mini Compaq neetbook. Many thanks and regards. Very nice for me is you avatar, because it's very similar to my old cat that passed away last year at 15.

The problem here is that we don't know how you've treated your computer... and we are not sitting in front of it.

- have you made sure that ALL applications are up to date?
- did you install something recently that may have messed it up?
- do you have a good Firewall/Anti-virus application ... and is all that updated?
- there are literately thousands of things that could cause problems in a computer.

With that said... it sounds like you just went ahead and clicked on some keys/options and went toooo far in uninstalling Firefox... and unless you performed a backup prior to do that you data is lost.

In the future you might want to consider this...

Also, since the release of Firefox 6.x this change was made... though I don't think it had/has anything to do with your original post... it's just for info....

I extremely appreciate your help but I would be very happy to exactly know what can cause the unexpected trouble I had. I have already deleted everything and installed a completelly clean new Firefox 8 starting from the download of a new "exe". But.., bur..., I do not want to get the horrible day of yesterday. I didin't have too much to loose; I have already added Status 4 Bar; Tab Mix Plus and Xmarks, that I hope they are not the cause of the 'disease'. My favorites in the form of tabs in bar is almost already rebuilt. Do you advice radical measures as to scan with Vipre rescue, in view that Avast and MAlawarebytes Anti Malaware disclosed nothing? Friendly regards.
