Firefox Extremely Slow Loading Pages-Opera-IE-A Lot Faster

Post by popeye »

Been using Firefox forever. Have Firefox 8 and extremely slow-takes forever for pages to load. When stating up Firefox open tabs takes a long time to connect.
I have Opera and IE, figuring it was my connection both browsers open fast and connect almost immediately.
Sorry, but I can not use Firefox any more. Any ideas on how to get this working as a browser?

If not, can someone recommend a browser that is close to Firefox customization?
Appreciated, thanks.

Let's try something. In the URL bar type
about:config
Go ahead and accept the consequences. This won't hurt anything, and you can undo the change anyway.
When you get to the about:config page type
image.mem.max_ms_before_yield
Right click on the entry and change the value to 400.

Try it for a while and see if that works. If it doesn't, then go back and change it back to the default value.

Pale Moon is very similar to Firefox. I like it and use it which you can see in my tag line, but it's strictly for Windows and not any other OS. Try PM out for yourself. You might like it. Just google for the Pale Moon website.

You read it, but didn't follow the steps outlined, or read it, followed some links that pertained to your situation, and did some actual troubleshooting?

I'll recommend SeaMonkey. You can even come back to the SeaMonkey forum here viewforum.php?f=51 if that doesn't work for you.

So does that mean Firefox does not have a sister?

PM is just a small man compiled version of the Firefox browser.

James,

It's true Pale Moon is a..."small man compiled version of the Firefox browser"...which is your quote, but it doesn't bother me that Pale Moon is a small man compiled version of Firefox and it wouldn't bother me if Pale Moon had one hundred or more people compiling it.

Pale Moon looks like Firefox, acts like Firefox and can be customized just like Firefox since the add-ons, extensions and personas which work with Firefox, work with Pale Moon.

And Popeye, if he's running a Windows computer, just might like it if he tries it since he stated in his first post he might be looking for a Firefox alternative if he can't solve his present problem with Firefox 8.

You forgot to add that Palemoon has some of the security features of Firefox stripped out so it is not as secure as Firefox

And what good are all those security features to Popeye if he can't make the Firefox work for him?

BTW, I've been using Pale Moon and Firefox when both browsers started with version 4 and continuing with versions 5, 6, 7 and now 8 for both browsers. I have not had any security issues to date with either browser.

It works but he thinks it's just slow and he apparently cannot be bothered doing basic trouble shooting. So what makes you think he can get a clone to work any better? If your going to troll at least read the thread before jumping in with the browser spam

Pale Moon isn't "like" Firefox... it *is* Firefox with some things gutted out of it and some Windows-specific optimizations done when it's built. But I suspect most of the perceived speed comes from the fact that it's a way to force people to use a new profile.
Tip of the day: If it has "toolbar" in the name, it's crap.
