GOD I wish I could meet the person who that of the idea of having an EXTREMELY annoying spinning green circle in the tabs I don't know how anyone in their right mind could find this OK with the firefox users.
Does anyone know how to get rid of these? Turn them off? I can't stand it.

They are fine by me. They are only letting you know that the page is still loading.

Try any of these:
http://userstyles.org/styles/38669/firefox-4-blue-loading-progress-tab-throbber
http://userstyles.org/styles/38668/firefox-4-orange-loading-progress-tab-throbber
My personal favorite:

Regarding the issue of how to apply CSS code or Userstyles you can use Stylish extension which provides a nice, easy UI that also allows you to add, test, revise, and remove CSS styles without having to restart the browser each time. I would say give it a test drive and see what you think.

There are over 100 themes that don't use the default theme throbbers, but most if not all of them HAVE throbbers because it's a standard part of the UI:

BTW, every version of Firefox I've ever used has throbbers on the tabs when sites are loading. Is there some browser that doesn't?

Tip of the day: If it has "toolbar" in the name, it's crap.

1. Close the tab.
2. Press <F11>.
3. Press the red 'X' to stop loading.
