about:config
Hello,
I use Firefox 11.0.
I would be interested to know more about:
- browser.cache.compression_level
- browser.cache.disk.smart_size_cached_value
- browser.taskbar.previews.cachetime
- Browser.cache.memory.capacity
Please help me with a short description and tell me about possible values and their effects.

Search the knowledge base for "about:config".

Re: about:config
howdy Rk9smaXc,
for me the easiest way to get info like that is to do a google search for the pref name. [*grin*] it's pretty effective, plus you can use the advanced search to limit things to a specific site - like the mozillazine knowledge base, for instance.
take care,
lee

You might want to start with these:

@ jdspencer: Do you really thing I did not search the knowledge base?
@ Lee_Dailey: You are so smart using the google search. But who would not, nowadays?
- browser.cache.compression_level: http://kb.mozillazine.org/About:config_entries: no hit
- browser.cache.disk.smart_size_cached_value: http://kb.mozillazine.org/About:config_entries: no hit
- browser.taskbar.previews.cachetime: http://kb.mozillazine.org/About:config_entries: no hit

- browser.cache.disk.smart_size_cached_value: http://kb.mozillazine.org/Category:Preferences: no hit
- browser.taskbar.previews.cachetime: http://kb.mozillazine.org/Category:Preferences: no hit
I would not have asked if I had found an answere with google.

Re: about:config
Try searching in Bugzilla or asking at Mozilla, they added them! In Bugzilla they appear to be new in Firefox 11+ and it looks like they are turned off until code is tested. Try changeing the values and see what happens. Worst that can happen is your computer wipes the hard drive and then blows up! Backup profile first if you mess with them.

howdy Rk9smaXc,
i try not to guess what others have done. it leads to fewer wasted minutes.
next time, if you don't want to get the standard "try searching" answer ... well, _tell_ us that you have done so. to my knowledge, there are few mind readers here and there is a reason why "try searching" is considered a standard answer. [*grin*]
for your very 1st item in the quote above, a google search found this bugzilla page ...
https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=648429
so it looks like the recommendation by JayhawksRock is seconded. try searching both in general and in particular sites like bugzilla.
good luck!
take care,
lee

Yeah, I do. Otherwise why did you ask about browser.cache.memory.capacity?
http://kb.mozillazine.org/Browser.cache.memory.capacity
Now you can argue about this all you like, but with your attitude, sunshine, people wouldn't piss on you if you were on fire, let alone spend their free time helping you. I suggest you think about that one before you leave.

Re: about:config
You're Welcome!
Both Frank and Lee were trying to point out that the info you wanted is out there. You just have to search. Just searching Mozilla or Mozillazine is not enough. Also, you need to adjust how you search and include additional keywords until you find what you want. Took me about 10 minutes to find those sites. Try the others and you will find the info.

howdy Rk9smaXc,
"Do you really thing that you helped me? Your answeres are wasted time indeed."
i presume you are not a native english speaker so i won't give you a hard time about your spelling or your repeated use of "thing" instead of "think".
the usual _polite_ response to a link that one does not find either understandable or useful is to _politely_ point out the problem and ask for help with the specific subject.
it generally is considered _rude_ to say "you useless twit! your link is useless and so are you!" ... which is how i read your posts. perhaps you don't intend them that way - i know that it's easy to get the emotional context wrong in written msgs.
you, on the other hand, seem to be going out of your way to be offensive.
hopefully someone more tolerant of your behavior will help you.
take care,
lee
