"New Tab" Page Feature- Restoring Blank Page
The new tab feature looks great, but for privacy reasons, I'd rather have the page "blank" like before. Is there a setting to restore the blank tab page? Responses are appreciated.

Moving to Firefox Builds where pre-release versions are discussed.

if you want to prevent some websites from showing up on the new tab page, you can just remove them by clicking on the cross on the upper right edge of the thumbnail
if you want to totally get rid of the new tab page, you can click on the cross on the upper right edge of the new tab page

Set browser.newtab.url to about:blank

This.
(and that, from G-Man if one wants no tab thumbnails or anything - I like the New Tab page )

but... there's no need to tweak about:config ...
mozilla actually introduced a way to get rid of new tab page without having to get your hands in the engine
stop spreading this browser.newtab.url nonsense, you might confuse new users, and you give the haters argument to say firefox isn't user friendly :/

Pretty harsh way to describe a response that very precisely did what the OP asked which was a blank page. The "hide" option is precisely that, it hides the page previews but hardly provides a blank page. Changing the hidden preference actually reverts to the behaviour before this feature was added which is a completely blank page. Take your pick.

Yes a small box at top right and grey gradient page makes a lot of difference!

This is, in my favor, one of the best things they rolled out with yet. And so is browser.tabs.closeWindowWithLastTab . Eliminates the have to use certain extensions just for this one/two preferences.
Who doesn't want to get their hands in the engine? It's fun, productive and educational.
Stop stating the obvious.

Please stop spreading this nonsense indeed because you fail to read the topic start and fail to understand what that option does. That option is only to hide or unhide the grid with websites by simply clicking on that little button on the top right of the page and thus it is completely useless if you want privacy or a blank page. The only way of accomplishing this requires changing browser.newtab.url from about:newtab to about:blank. There simply is no other way. It would have been better if the new tab page was a grid with your most favourite websites you set, like the one in Opera. This way you can control it completely instead of having the browser controlling it for you like it is now. It gives you privacy.

- To remove an entry, place the mouse pointer over the thumbnail then click the [x] button in the top right corner.
- To add an entry, drag and drop a bookmark or site icon from the location bar onto a thumbnail.

Correct, G-Man.
Additionally, if one pins 9 sites to the page (presumably, sites wherein one is not worried about "privacy"), no others will show up (well, until the pinned sites are deleted).

You are forgetting one crucial step:
- Step back and watch the other sites in your history take the place of sites you deleted.
It is this part that doesn't happen in the Opera version. It only displays pages you put on it, not pages that are pulled from your history like Firefox 13 does. It might be a minor difference but it has a huge impact. It makes Opera more private, Firefox less.

Perhaps some sort of "freeze" option would be a good idea?
I actually like that it's populated automatically.
