Unable to watch videos in Vimeo
Hi, I'm unable to watch videos in the Vimeo website with Firefox (currently v13 but I've been carrying this issue with previous versions). The videos are displayed as static pictures with no play controls. However with Chrome and IE videos are displayed and played fine. Any suggestions? Thanks.

Re: Unable to watch videos in Vimeo
Moving to Firefox Support.
Have you tried starting Firefox in Mozilla Safe Mode? http://kb.mozillazine.org/Safe_mode
Do you have the same problem if you create a new profile and test it with no extensions or non-default themes installed?

Re: Unable to watch videos in Vimeo
Thanks, I tried restarting with all plugins/extensions disabled (Safe Mode) and the issue still persists. I have not tried the new profile approach or further diagnostic steps suggested
UPDATE: I tested Vimeo in Firefox running in a Windows 7 VIrtual Machine (XP host) and it plays fine.

Re: Unable to watch videos in Vimeo
UPDATE: Well, some progress is made. I created a blank new profile and with this blank Profile Firefox behaves well, Vimeo videos are played correctly, so the issue is solved.
However, when I try to transfer the data and settings of my old profile to this new profile the following happens:
1) If I migrate using MozBackup and choose to backup/restore all of the original data/settings the new profile will look identical to the old one and the Vimeo videos won't play.
2) If I migrate data/settings manually using the steps provided in the link below:
http://kb.mozillazine.org/Transferring_ ... _-_Firefox
the bookmarks and only SOME plugins/extensions will be transferred and the GUI has to be customized again, on the positive side the Vimeo videos will play.
So, given the above, I would prefer to use MozBackup (easier/shorter method), but then I would need to know which items not to backup so that when I restore to the new profile it won't replicate the issue.

Your item #2 is the answer. Only transfer the Files and Folder listed here > http://kb.mozillazine.org/Transferring_ ... _-_Firefox Anything else has the potential of moving the problem into the new profile

Re: Unable to watch videos in Vimeo
Thanks, I will have to reinstall some extensions/plugins and customize the GUI again.
The only file I don't find in the old profile which needs to be transferred is "persdict.dat ". Will that bring any issues?

If you do not have a persdict.dat then that means you probably never added any custom words to spellchecker dictionary.

Re: Unable to watch videos in Vimeo
Thanks everyone. I was able to transfer all extensions with their settings to the new profile using MozBackup (I just selected Extensions at the backup/restore stages). Now I have an exact replica of my old profile but with playable Vimeo videos. ISSUE SOLVED!!!
P.D.: It would be interesting to determine what was the culprit for this issue. I kept the old profile in case I have time to do further diagnostics to find out. If so, I will update this thread.

Re: Unable to watch videos in Vimeo
OK, I found the reason for the issue. If I have plugin-container.exe disabled (by setting dom.ipc.plugins.enabled set to FALSE), Vimeo videos won't play. If I set it to TRUE (plugin-container.exe enabled), it will play. This is really annoying because the process plugin-container.exe is a CPU and RAM hog (it goes as much as 54% of CPU usage). If I delete the process from Task Manager not only the Vimeo flash video will crash but the process will re appear. Anyone has a fix for this? Thanks
UPDATE: I tested Firefox v13 in another PC with Windows 7 (mine is XP) and it exhibits the same behavior as above, i.e., if plugin-container.exe is disabled then Vimeo videos are not playable. So since it's not specific to my PC then most probably there was nothing wrong with my old profile. In fact, when I enable plugin-container.exe in my old profile Vimeo is playable.

Re: Unable to watch videos in Vimeo
for me the solution was here: http://helpx.adobe.com/flash-player/kb/ ... zilla.html : Issue 1: Rich media content doesn't appear if RealPlayer is installed :
I had to deselect a setting in RealPlayer.
Then I could watch video on Vimeo, fileleaks, see the flash player version on http://helpx.adobe.com/flash-player.html and see the flash player settings manager at http://www.macromedia.com/support/docum ... ger02.html.
