Firefox DOM And CSS Performance [Latest Benchmark at Tom's]
Hellooo my foxies
I was reading the extensive Tom's Hardware benchmark of modern browsers.
It was very nice to see Firefox amongst the top 2/3 in most all areas, but the only area that stood out negatively was DOM and CSS *(Maze Solver, to be more specific).
I know there has been strong improvement in areas like javascript, start-up and 'snappiness', can anyone inform me if something similar is going on for DOM and CSS, too?
Regards

The whole test is FUD
It simply doesn't test much relevant.
Where is the "Load 50 tabs at once and try to scroll the first one" test which measures the FPS of scrolling in such a situation?
Firefox would flunk such a test without any doubt.
WebGL? Relevant? Where? Facebook? YouTube? Yahoo?
etc.

Well it's on google maps... You're not going to see it used much on major 2d sites, it will mostly be used on game sites whether it be for implementing 3d games in the browser or for the much simpler task of displaying 3d art (characters, units, armor, etc.) in the browser from major desktop games. Click the "View in 3D" button on the following page for an example (using flash not webgl) of what I mean: http://www.wowhead.com/item=64377

Yes, clearly a benchmark that's not bashing Firefox is a bad benchmark.

The comments section (first page is plenty) also exposes some BIAS or simple stupidity of the tests conducted.

Yeah, there's just not enough Internet Explorer praise.

Yes, people have way too large bias against IE9/10.
And tests shown here simply do not reflect the down-sides of working in a multi-tab environment on Firefox compared to the competition.
"Benchmarks" such as this one are simply attention grabbers for their creators. They capture those those without fair level of skepticism unfairly IMO.

Umm , i am not sure but Firefox still says solid no matter how many tabs you open , it is chrome which goes mad.
Yup i just tested again , my Firefox 14 with ~50 tabs of theverge , arstechnica neowin deviantart youtube apple chrome opera safari etc etc took about 640mb ram (/2gb) and was overall snappy , it has been 2 mins now after i closed all of them and now with 5 tabs open it takes 370mb and still feels snappy.

it is true, but this bench. is accurate (besides.. they showed their config in detail so result may easily vary across systems)
and according to the results page Chrome is just 0.5 point further ahead, closely followed by Firefox so it's in the zone of uncertain calculations anyway

And last 3 "Grand prix" were won by Firefox.
I am pretty sure once this maze problem is fixed , Firefox will dominate overall

Supposedly DLBI will help with the maze solver benchmark to a certain degree.
You can't handle the правда!

Wow that is a quite large set of patches. It sounds like it might fix a lot of the laggy scrolling on complex sites (rarely run into it but when I do it's quite annoying). I hope they sort out the regressions soon.
