That sounds like the other guys' problem, for not setting up their mail programs to use a signature in reasonable format for plain-text mail.

I also can't recall ever having anybody complain about my use of plain text mail, which is the only format I've ever sent in over 20 years of using e-mail.

They apparently had to manually modify their signature when their email client (didn't bother to check which) replied in plain text to my plain text email, but their signature had "funny symbals in it" (I assume they meant HTML tags).

Um... Let me get this straight: the other users' mail client can't reply correctly to plain text mail?

Or is it the case that the other users incorporated some HTML in the signature which didn't work in plain text replies.

Either way, it's not your problem. :-)

Good luck on getting your reply issue solved. It's not something that I have expertise in, as you can tell.

You're right, the other people are complete retards for not knowing how to setup their email clients. Unfortunately they have been able to get themselves into good positions within the business world despite their apparent email stupidity. Therefore, I find that it would be best to "kiss their ass" with a "properly" formed email.

And once again, I am having difficultly understanding the necessity of my justification and reasoning for my need to simply modify how TB replies to emails...

The default answer regarding anything having to do with reply headers or HTML e-mail (or virtually any e-mail feature that wasn't available in PINE) inside this forum is:

"you don't need that"

and then the inevitable reply is:

"yes I do"

and a long time is spent justifying the need, and then the response after that is:

"no, you don't"

etc. etc.

Dan, I don't even know you, but I do know you hate HTML e-mail. It's obvious you're waging a one-man war against it. That's fine. But I think you could stop responding to/derailing user requests for help regarding these features with "you don't need that". It's distracting, unproductive and rude.

But wait, his question was answered early in the thread - he can make modifications to the user.js file, or he can use an extension. The rest of the time has been spent discussing why he would want what he wants, and silly people he has to work with.

I wouldn't call it a "one-man war", given that several other people (men, women, children?) have joined in on my side here.

Well, I found this post when I hit the same problem as the thread starter. What amazes me is that people participate in such talks when they don't know the solution nor want to help the thread starter to fix the problem, just make them switch they soft/way of working or whatever. Really funny people.

Man, DaCypher, you are being far more patient than I would be. It's odd that the same people that say that a user ought to have freedom to choose formats are basically telling you that you shouldn't have the freedom to send in HTML.

TO ALL: don't respond if you're not going to answer the question. Telling someone "they just shouldn't do that" is grossly paternalistic.

And, now, without having read this annoying thread fully, I used a Template + this extension: https://nic-nac-project.de/~kaosmos/tem ... er-en.html to force TB to format my messages (all of them, including replies) exactly how I want them.
