No close tab button

Post by rattle3761 »

As per my heading, I would definitely like to see this (it's in FF) as I do a lot of forum work and sometime am dealing with many open tabs.

Type about:config in the Location (address) bar.
Filter for browser.tabs.closeButtons
Right-click or double-left-click this preference and Modify the Value to say either 2 or 0

0 = Close button only on the active tab
1 = Close buttons on each tab (default)
2 = No tab close buttons (use Middle-click or Ctrl+w or right-click tab to close)
3 = Close button at the end of the row of tabs (Firefox 1.0 and earlier style)

That doesn't work for me. I seem to recall previous threads said it was inoperative in SM browser.

This does work for me: http://tom-cat.com/mozilla/seamonkey/extensions-seatabx.html.

You can middle-click on a tab to close it without the button.
Tip of the day: If it has "toolbar" in the name, it's crap.

Hmm could have sworn this was in a Firefox section... otherwise I would not have posted that.

There is a close tab button. Just not on every tab.

In any case, viewtopic.php?p=12206537#p12206537.

In addition to middle-click, there is also Ctrl+W.

I have just downloaded Sea Tab X and in does exactly what I want. Thanks.

I must say that I find it unusual that such a long-time feature has been dropped from the core version of Sea Monkey.

SeaMonkey, or the Mozilla Suite before it, has never had individual tab closers TMK, just the one at the end of the tab strip. Individual tab closers did not come to Firefox until version 2.0, about 6 years ago.

Until I started using SeaTabX I always right clicked on the tab to close it. I never liked the single close X at the end of the tab line.
I'm sure some people would complain if there was a clos X on every tab. The right thing to do is make it a Tab settings option.

I would, I hate it.

If, when fully implemented in SeaMonkey, the options James pointed out would then work.

The close button would occupy some vital real estate
The right thing to do is make it a Tab settings option.
One more up vote for this feature

A close button on every tab is unnecessary. Middle click any tab, and it closes. SeaTabX is a pointless add-on.

Pointless only if you don't use or like it. I happen to do both.

Redundant yes, pointless, no.
